Dyer & Brown suffer Murrayfield loss

12/02/2023

Dragons RFC duo Rio Dyer and Leon Brown both featured as Wales were left still looking for their first win in this Six Nations campaign after a 35-7 defeat to Grand Slam chasing Scotland who recorded a bonus-point win at BT Murrayfield.

Scotland, who beat England at Twickenham to win the Calcutta Cup in their opening game of the tournament, crossed for five tries against a new-look and young Wales side to win their opening two championship matches for the first time since 1996.

Coach Warren Gatland had won all his 10 previous meetings with Scotland and this was his first defeat to the Scots in the Six Nations with Wales. Conversely, it is the first time since 2007 that Wales have lost both of their opening two games in the championship.

Captain Ken Owens scored Wales’ try and they certainly created opportunities and had periods of real pressure but couldn’t find the key to unlock the home side’s defence.

Wales are next at home when they face England on Saturday, February 25.
