Rising star Reed signs new deal

16/04/2024

Fly half Will Reed will continue his impressive development at Dragons RFC after today signing a new contract.

Dragons Academy product Reed – who made his senior debut for the club in March 2022 – has put pen to paper to agree new terms at Rodney Parade.

The 22-year-old joins the likes of Rio Dyer, Aaron Wainwright, Taine Basham, Matthew Screech and Angus O’Brien from the senior set-up in committing to the Men of Gwent.

Head Coach Dai Flanagan said: “Will has had a very good season for us and really benefited from game time.

“His performances have improved throughout the season, and we are excited about his development curve and his continued growth.

“Will is still a young man with a bright future ahead of him and he is one of a number of exciting homegrown talents that we can build our club around.”

A former Wales Under-20 international, Reed graduated to the senior squad at Dragons after excelling for the Dragons Academy at age grade level.

Cwmbran-born Reed has made a total of 34 senior appearances for Dragons to date, scoring 107 points.

“I’m excited to sign new terms with my home club and continue my development here,” said Reed, who was named player-of-the-match in the recent BKT United Rugby Championship victory over Zebre Parma.

“The exposure to senior rugby and playing the number of games I have this season has been hugely beneficial to me.

“I’ve learnt a great deal and I’ll take that forward now and look to kick on for Dragons in the seasons ahead.”
