Nott keen to build on European success

21/01/2023

Dragons RFC lock George Nott is determined to build momentum for the rest of the season in Europe – and that means defeated Emirates Lions in a huge home qualification decider.

Nott, who turns 27 today, will line up at blindside flanker tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon when the Men of Gwent face the South Africans with a home last in the next round up for grabs.

North Walian Nott – who has made six appearances since his switch last summer from London Irish – was a pivotal figure last weekend in the vital win over Section Paloise.

That put progress in the competition back in the hands of the Dragons who know victory would secure a home tie.

But for Nott that is just the start as the ambitious forward chases more success.

“It’s easy to say, particularly from the outside, that Dragons have won a few games this year and they must be happy with that now. The truth is, we are not,” he said.

“We want to win every game and we’re an ambitious squad. Just getting the odd win here and there is not good enough for us.

“We went into that game (against Section Paloise) looking to win. That is what we got.

“We can’t get carried away with it. We’ve now got to back it up and we are looking for those back-to-back wins that we have struggled to get so far this season.

“The game with the Lions is an opportunity to get some momentum to carry back into the league.

“We’d love to get the supporters a home knockout tie and Rodney Parade is not an easy place for the opposition to come,” he added.

“We certainly go into this weekend knowing what it means to us. We want to win to get that home tie in the knockout stages of the tournament.

“It’s not easy to come here and we need to make the most of that.”
