Cross: Ross will impress on milestone day

19/01/2023

Defence Coach Simon Cross has backed back row forward Ross Moriarty to mark a major milestone with the club with a big performance on Sunday afternoon.

Moriarty – who had played every game until he was rested for last Friday’s European Challenge Cup win in Pau – is set to make his 50th appearance for the Men of Gwent when they face Emirates Lions on Sunday (kick-off 1pm).

With knockout rugby up for grabs in the EPRC Challenge Cup, Moriarty is sure to lead the way according to defence guru Cross.

“He is playing as well now as he has in the four years I have been involved with the Dragons,” stated Cross.

“I do feel for Ross that he has not been selected by Wales and the whole of Gwent will be too. He has been our talisman and our go-to guy.

“It’s his 50th game for the club at the weekend and he will be ready to go, don't worry about that. I wouldn't want to be getting in the way of Ross Moriarty, let's put it that way.

“His strengths are physicality at the line with ball in hand and the same in defence. He is a tough man that makes the hard yards, and he also hits pretty hard.

"Ross is a smart rugby player from a great dynasty and he knows the game inside out.”
