Scarfe gearing up for Scottish clash

07/02/2023

Dragons RFC hooker Sam Scarfe is determined to build on his try-scoring debut for Wales Under-20s when they face Scotland Under-20s at Scotstoun Stadium on Friday evening (kick-off 7.15pm).

Scarfe was part of a Welsh side that pushed Six Nations champions Ireland all the way before losing out 44-27 on the opening night at Stadiwm CSM.

The dynamic front row – one of seven new caps who went toe to toe with the champions – believes Wales can take positives from the first game as they took a half-time lead.

“I’m proud to represent my country and hopefully I get another chance and we can put it right against Scotland,” he said.

“I thought we started the game well and although it didn’t go our way in the end, we showed a lot of character.

“We played with pride and a lot of good rugby so now it is about looking at next week."

Scarfe also grabbed a memorable try, popping up on the wing to finish off another superb team move.

“I’ve been told to stay out there for some reason - and it came off,” smiled Scarfe.

“It was a team try, things we had practiced on the training pitch, and it came off.

“If we keep playing the way we want to play then we will get some results.

“We got a point out of Ireland which is a bonus. You don’t know how crucial that could yet prove to be.

“It would have been nice to get more. We now move to Scotland and the aim there is to get five.”
