The Great Rugger Run visits Rodney Parade

Tilly Davies | 28/08/2023

Epic fundraiser Tim Tunnicliff has entered the final week of his Great Rugger Run - running from West Wales to the West Country – as he pounds the roads for charity.

His challenge over 25 days is to run between 171 rugby clubs completing over one million metres while raising funds for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and other MND charities along the way.

Tim’s incredible rugby tour will see him visit clubhouses and immerse himself in history and memorabilia along the way – and on day 15 he stopped at in at our Rodney Parade home.

Known for hosting the Amateur Rugby podcast and a former semi-professional player and coach, Tim said: “MND is destroying lives. MND first came to my attention when Springbok legend, Joost van der Westhuizen, was diagnosed in 2011 and subsequently died from it in 2017.

“I watched from afar as my former team-mate, Mike Crisp, bravely battled it and the high-profile cases of Rob Burrow, Doddie Weir and more recently Ed Slater have raised more awareness of this cruellest of diseases.

“It's with this in mind that I will be supporting the My Name'5 Doddie Foundation, the 4ED campaign and The Freddie Crisp Trust during this year's Great Rugger Run - a 1,000km run from rugby club to rugby club from the West of Wales to the West Country - A Million Metres for MND!”
