Richards set for hamstring layoff

29/11/2022

Head Coach Dai Flanagan has admitted David Richards will be sadly missed after suffering a serious hamstring injury against Emirates Lions.

Richards has remained with the squad in South Africa to be assessed and start his rehabilitation after a leg injury saw him stretchered him off in the game at Emirates Airline Park.

“He has had a nasty looking hamstring injury,” admitted Flanagan.

“David will stay with us this week so we can make sure we give him the best rehab and then decide if he stays or whether we send him home to his family. We will look after him.

“It looks long-term. He hyperextended his leg and put his hamstring in an awkward position.

“He’s a great kid, one of the politest people you will meet, so clearly his parents have bought him up extremely well. They can be proud of the person he is.

“His game was getting better and better, so it is such a shame. But he will come back stronger because he is a good person,” he stressed.

“It has been challenging for him because he has always been a full back.

“I have asked him to adapt his game to be able to understand defensive systems on the wing.

“He has taken to it and just wants to play, so he is one we will miss.“
