Nursery visits for Dragons Community

29/11/2022

The Dragons Family has expanded even further in recent weeks - thanks to the latest provision provided by our successful Dragons Community team.

Using the power of rugby as the catalyst to inspire and educate our regional youngsters is crucial to the work of our community team.

And now toddlers across the region are benefitting from the latest part of the Dragons Education programme – Dragons Tails – with support from Aneurin Leisure Sports Development.

Steve Lewis, Community Officer, was a special guest at Tweenie Tots Nursery in Beaufort recently to help the children - and staff - get active.

Activities include getting children to catch and pass ‘dinosaur eggs’ (rugby balls), running fast, jumping, going slow, balancing and gently placing the eggs on the floor (scoring tries).

“It’s fantastic to be able to go out into the community and welcome some very young potential fans of the future into the Dragons family,” said Steve.

“We get the children active through story sessions, where we're working on their fundamental and listening skills. It’s been great to see the response!"

The Dragons Community team will be expanding the programme to seven nurseries in Blaenau Gwent, with each session lasting 30 minutes and the programme running for six weeks at each setting.
