URC Big Picture Project is Go!

11/02/2022

The United Rugby Championship is proud to announce the launch of the ‘Big Picture Project’ – a unique photography-based educational course that will identify one young person to be a behind-the-scenes photographer at the URC Grand Final in June.

As part of the Take on Tomorrow programme, the Big Picture Project will offer 75 places to young people aged 18-25 with virtual teaching sessions providing key lessons in photography so they can capture scenes from around the URC’s rugby communities that celebrate unity and respect.

The Big Picture Project aims to change the lives of young people connected to the communities of our URC teams and will bring together different cultures, nationalities and outlooks to learn together, share experiences and build unity, empathy and understanding.

Each of the 75 successful participants will take part in two virtual sessions led by Tom Martin, an award-winning photographer who has worked with UNICEF and conducted work in post-conflict settings such as Rwanda, South Sudan and Sierra Leone.

The participants will all submit imagery that will be exhibited ahead of the URC Grand Final, where one young person will be provided with special behind-the-scenes access at the game and provided the opportunity to capture moments beyond the field of play.

Martin Anayi, CEO, United Rugby Championship, said: “The Big Picture Project will allow us to spotlight rugby communities across the URC and live up to the expectations we have set for the Take on Tomorrow programme so we can create a connection across our territories.

“The themes of unity and respect are integral not only to rugby, but to all aspects of society no matter where in the world you live. To see how the young people involved will find ways to frame and portray their communities and how they illustrate these themes is really exciting and we’re looking forward to showcasing the results when the time comes.”

URC have enlisted the assistance of Trust Impact – an organisation with deep experience and credentials in developing tangible social change - to help run the project.

Funding for the project is from a grant provided by CVC Philanthropy.

Take on Tomorrow Mission Statement

The Take on Tomorrow programme is inspired by the mission to celebrate the diversity and national cultures of the URC while using the league’s platform to champion for a healthier, stronger, unified next generation.

The programme will advance and celebrate the power of URC rugby as tool for social change by using our international platform to support the efforts of clubs, players, fans and leading charities as they change lives of young people across the five territories in which we play.
