New signing Aki Seiuli has revealed a straight-talking call with boss Dean Ryan was the catalyst for his move to Dragons.
Loosehead prop Seiuli this week made the move to Rodney Parade after a two-year spell at Glasgow Warriors.
The 28-year-old – who has previously also played for Otago and Highlanders – is keen play his part in the upward trajectory for Dragons under Director of Dragons Rugby Ryan - and acknowledges his first contact with his new boss made his mind up.
“I had a zoom call with Dean (Ryan) and he was pretty straight forward,” smiled Seiuli.
“You can tell that he is very invested in the place and what he has been doing with the team the last few seasons is testament to him. I’m keen to be part of it and enjoy it.
“They are obviously doing great things and they have definitely improved the last few seasons - it is awesome to now be a part of it.
“I have actually played against Dragons for the Glasgow Warriors a few times and they were doing quite well – they beat us twice last season!”
Seiuli is already eager for his first taste of life at Rodney Parade with fans due to return for the 2021/22 season.
“I’ve looked at the terraces and I’ve been told it is packed out for the Welsh derby games – I’m looking forward to that,” he stated.
And the New Zealand-born front row has quickly settled into new surroundings after a first week in training at Ystrad Mynach.
“The boys have been great – very welcoming – and I met most of the forwards early in the week,” he said.
“It’s good to getting to know them and I am sure I will get to know them more over the coming weeks.
“I’m now looking forward to kicking in and hopefully I can put my best foot forward and do this place well.”
