Hibbard: We must impose ourselves

03/02/2021

Hooker Richard Hibbard is determined to celebrate his 50th appearance for Dragons with a key victory - at the start of what he acknowledges is a crucial period for the region.

Dragons are back in action on home soil this Friday evening as they welcome Connacht for a rearranged Guinness PRO14 encounter (kick-off 7.35pm).

Hibbard is set to bring up his half century in the league fixture and ahead of the game has spoken about the challenge ahead for Dean Ryan’s men.

He said: “We have a run of seven games and five of them are at home. It’s going to be an important block for us if anything, but it should be good fun.

“The home games will be very important and it’s about time now we push on and get in our stride.

“It’s going to be tough, but the boys are really looking forward to it.

“It’s been stop, start all season and now we have a good solid start to get our teeth stuck in to and we need to impose ourselves.”

Connacht arrive smarting after a home defeat to Ospreys last time out and former Wales international Hibbard knows how difficult an opponent they can be.

“Home or away, they are a very difficult team,” he said. “They are well drilled, hard straight runners, and they are going to be a tough team to break down.

“Connacht will be seething a little bit after losing at home last week, so they will be coming over here on Friday with a point to prove.

“They will try to take us on and it’s about us matching them and imposing our own game on them.”
