Loan Watch: Edwards faces Tompkins

19/04/2021

Dragons on-loan centre Connor Edwards was unable to help the Doncaster Knights keep their unbeaten run going as they suffered their first defeat of the season against Saracens in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Edwards operated at inside centre for the clash and was up against former Dragon Nick Tompkins, who’s loan spell in Newport recently came to an end, as Saracens claimed a 50-15 victory.

Edwards and the Knights battled to the end, but it wasn’t to be against a strong Saracens side who welcomed back multiple internationals after Six Nations duty, including the likes of Mako and Billy Vunipola and Owen Farrell who captained the side.

Edwards joined the Yorkshire based outfit on a season-long-loan from the Men of Gwent and has made a big impression in his short stint to date, with some impressive performances in midfield.

The 23-year-old from Croesyceiliog made the move north in a bid for game time and he has impressed with his direct running and strong defence.

All eyes now turn to next weekend as the Knights travel to Richmond hoping to bounce back from the Saracens defeat and return to winning ways.
