Taine Basham’s outstanding season in the Guinness PRO14 has been underlined following the release of the official statistics for the league.
After the completion of the regular season, OPTA have revealed which players from the 12-teams have made the final shortlists in various categories – from metres made to successful tackles.
Back row Basham led the way for Dragons as finished top in four of the categories for the region. The 22-year-old finished the season with an impressive 176 tackles to finish joint third in the tackle charts. Paul Boyle (Connacht) also made 176 tackles while Will Connors (Leinster) made 177 and Olly Cracknell (Ospreys) led with 189.
Lock Matthew Screech (137), prop Brok Harris (129) and second row Joe Davies (116) also featured in the top 25 in the tackle charts.
Basham was also out front in carries for the region (104) while Screech (94) also made the shortlist. Uzair Cassiem (Scarlets) led with 163.
The dynamic back row, a product of the Dragons Academy, also made 11 clean breaks and won 10 turnovers to feature prominently in those charts.
Centre Jack Dixon was crowed the offload king for Dragons with 10 during the campaign. Giovanni Licata led the statistics with 16 offloads during the season.
Wing Ashton Hewitt beat 28 defenders in the season to finish in the top 25 in that category and lead the region, one ahead of Basham (27).
Elusive full back Jordan Williams also finished 12th in metres made with 473, despite not playing in the competition since November due to injury. Hewitt also made the top 25 with 405 metres in the league season.
