Focus On the Group We Have - Ryan

17/04/2020

Dean Ryan insists making players better at Dragons is his priority as he looks to next season and beyond.

Dragons have already announced new deals for captain Rhodri Williams, Ollie Griffiths, Josh Lewis, Jordan Williams and Ross Moriarty.

Young up and coming stars Taine Basham, Max Williams, Connor Edwards, Rio Dyer and Josh Reynolds are also among the Dragons Academy graduates to agree new terms, whilst there's also been appointments to the back room team.

And Ryan has been pleased by the way players have bought into the vision and plan at the region.

“We've always targeted to make the group that we've got better,” he said.

“I’ve worked in the English Premiership for a long time and you go into a club and your quickest way to improve is probably changing people.

“Wales is about making people better. Our focus is on the group we've got.

“We haven't just retained quite a lot we've retained all the people we wanted, outside of Cory Hill.

“I think that's a significant boost for the region off the back of some years when maybe that hasn’t been the case. I think that's a real credit to everybody involved in the club.

“We don't want to get big numbers of players coming into this group,” he added.

“This group is a good group. Therefore, we've got to be strong enough to keep supporting it and making it better.

“What we do need is one, two or three players to come in and add some experience. Am I confident of that yes? I’m hopeful of that.

“I'm hopeful that we can add some experience, stabilise the group, with the focus remaining on this playing group getting better
