Jarvis boost as Dragons wait on duo

29/10/2019

Boss Dean Ryan has revealed that former Wales international front row Aaron Jarvis is nearing a playing return.

However, prop Ryan Bevington and back row Lewis Evans are set for surgery to overcome injuries.

The front row resources at the region will be boosted by the return of Jarvis, who can play on either side of the scrum.

The 33-year-old last featured against the Scarlets in January and has seen his start to the new campaign disrupted by injury.

"Aaron is back training," revealed Ryan. "He is not back for full contact yet, but he is back with us and took part in some scrums and drives for the first time today.

"We are a small squad and we had a young man on the bench last weekend (Josh Reynolds). In a best scenario we want to give him some development experience, but what we don't want is over-exposure.”

Bevington suffered a knee injury against Munster and is set to go under the knife, as is Evans after he picked up a bicep injury ahead of the win against Glasgow Warriors.

"Ryan needs some investigative surgery to understand his knee injury a bit better, we have got some pain issues that we need to look at," said Ryan.

"We probably also need to do the same with Lewis, who has an issue with a bicep which might need further investigation because he had to pull out quite late last week."

Meanwhile, back row forward Harri Keddie is back in the contention for Friday evening’s Guinness PRO14 fixture with Leinster Rugby at the RDS.
