Prop Jack Cosgrove to retire

05/12/2019

Dragons can today confirm that prop Jack Cosgrove has retired from professional rugby on medical grounds with immediate effect.

The 25-year-old sustained a serious eye injury during a training session at the Dragons training centre at Ystrad Mynach in October.

The front row, who signed for Dragons in the summer, has now made the decision to retire from professional sport, following specialist treatment and medical advice.

Coventry-born forward Cosgrove attended Coundon Court School, then Hartpury College before joining Worcester Warriors Academy and working his way up into the senior set-up.

The loosehead prop later moved to Edinburgh for two seasons before heading south for the 2017/18 season to be part of Bristol’s Greene King IPA Championship-winning squad.

Cosgrove made his debut for Dragons in the Guinness PRO14 fixture with Connacht in October, after appearing in six out of eight Celtic Cup fixtures for the region during the early part of the season.

Everyone at the Dragons wishes Jack every success in his future and he will continue to receive professional help and support from the region as he makes the transition from playing.
