Davies - We are moving in right direction

23/12/2019

Fly half Sam Davies insisted Dragons were ‘moving in the right direction’ and ‘building something good’ as they stunned Scarlets in dramatic fashion in the Guinness PRO14 derby at Rodney Parade.

On a wet and blustery night in Newport, Davies produced another masterclass in the ten jersey before taking centre stage in a thrilling finale.

Davies missed a penalty with two minutes left, but refused to let his head drop, orchestrated one last attack and then held his nerve in injury time to slot a drop goal that sparked wild home celebrations.

“It was a great shift from the boys,” smiled Guinness PRO14 man-of-the-match Davies.

“We were confident we could get the win and we are turning Rodney Parade into a tough place to come. I feel we are moving in the right direction.

“It wasn’t a night for fast rugby, it was a night for calm and controlled rugby. “Luckily I had the chance to put it right after missing the penalty towards the end of the game.

“We are building something at the Dragons,” he added.

“Our confidence is growing and we are moving in the right direction.

“It was a brilliant win for us, but it is a quick turnaround now for us now.

“You don’t get much time off as a rugby player so it is back on Tuesday looking ahead to Blues.

“We will do our reviews and focus on the Blues when we come back in.

“What we are building here is something good.”
