Jackman praise for 'magical' Williams form

Head Coach Bernard Jackman has praised the impact of ‘magical’ full back Jordan Williams so far this season as his Dragons prepare to face Zebre Rugby in the Guinness PRO14 (kick-off 5.15pm).

Williams scored a stunning solo try against champions Leinster last weekend to underline his eye-catching form in the opening weeks of the campaign.

The former Bristol man will line-up against today (Saturday) as Dragons face the Italian Job – and Jackman knows how important is that the talented No.15 is given the ball to show his skills.

“We think he is special – we just need to get the ball to him,” said Jackman. “He leads the table in defenders beaten and I think he is magical. He can do things that others can’t.

“Having an attacking full back is invaluable. We had no possession against Leinster, but he got one good touch and he did damage.

“Against the Kings, when they kicked long to him he made them pay.

“Teams will be smart and not kick long to him so we need to get him involved in our multi-phase more.

“He is someone who can make a try out of nothing and he has been a good recruit for us. Everyone enjoys playing with him and he is a bit special.

“I spoke to Felipe Contepomi (backs coach at Leinster) after the game last week and he had seen what he did against then Kings and a couple of times against Benetton Rugby,” he added.

“They had spoken about him all week, but he was still pretty good. You know what he is going to do, but is balance and his pace make him hard to stop.”
