Hill - Dragons determined to 'put things right'

Captain Cory Hill insists the Dragons are determined to ‘put things right’ when they face Isuzu Southern Kings at home in the Guinness PRO14 on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Dragons will be back in action just seven days after a 21-17 opening day defeat to Benetton Rugby.

Hill revealed the players have this week held their hands up and taken responsibility this week for the loss in Round One.

And he is adamant the team is ready to make amends when the South Africans – who also lost to Zebre on day one – arrive in Newport.

“We’ve held our hands up and know individually it wasn’t good enough,” said Hill. “I don’t think you can go through a game and make that many errors and expect to win.

“We’ve taken a hard look at ourselves and know what we have got to fix.

“If tactically we were wrong the coaches hold their hands up and say we got it wrong. But we didn’t put the tactics into place because we didn’t keep hold of the ball long enough.

“We get paid to go out and get results and if we play like we did on Saturday then we are not going to get many. We have to up our game.

“The harsh reality is we weren’t good enough and our big players didn’t step up - and that includes me. But we are buzzing to put it right.”

The Isuzu Southern Kings lost 32-16 out in Italy to Zebre but will arrive at Rodney Parade eager to pull off a repeat of the win they secured over the Dragons last season.

“We will look at the opposition and put things in place to try and beat them. But we also need to concentrate on ourselves and do things right,” added Hill.

“They are a Southern Hemisphere team and have players who have played Super Rugby and Currie Cup.

“They can play rugby so we can’t just open the game, have a game of sevens and kick loosely to them then they will punish you. They showed that against Zebre last weekend.”
