Nansen called up by Manu Samoa

Lock Brandon Nansen has been called up by Manu Samoa for their forthcoming Northern Hemisphere tour.

The 24-year-old - who has won three caps for his country - has been selected by Head Coach Steve Jackson for game with USA, Georgia and Spain.

Jackson has named 20 players in his squad from European clubs and three new recruits, in North Harbour hooker Raymond Niuia, lock Benjamin Nee-Nee and Hawkes Bay midfielder Stacey Ili.

Manu Samoa has three games scheduled for the tour, kicking off with a clash against the USA on Saturday, November 10 at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian, Spain.

Their second game will be against Georgia on Saturday, November 17 before their final outing with hosts Spain on Saturday, November 24.

"We will be looking to continue some of the good work that has already been done to keep some continuity, but a big focus will be on defense especially set piece, defense and really attacking the ball when we haven’t got,” said Jackson.

“We will also be working on our kicking game, our game management and how we really finish teams off when we get in front. We will be looking for consistent performances on this tour.

"Competition for places is a key,” he added. “No one by right has the jersey for the first game, we are trying to build depth and the players going on this tour get the first opportunity to show us they want to be there next year.”
