Knoyle - Be inspired by derby day atmosphere

Scrum half Tavis Knoyle has urged Dragons to be inspired by a big derby day atmosphere on home soil against Cardiff Blues.

Ben Mottram | 01/10/2018

Knoyle will be hoping to start his second Guinness PRO14 game of the season on Saturday as Rodney Parade prepares to host the first Welsh derby of the season.

The 28-year-old acknowledges the game has an extra meaning for him – having played for the Blues between 2014 and 2016 before moving to Dragons.

And he believes embracing the big match atmosphere and enjoying every minute is the key to success as Dragons push to record a third home victory of the campaign.

“It’s exciting, it’s why we play rugby. You’ve got to enjoy every minute,” he said.

“Playing at Rodney Parade against the Cardiff Blues is big. I’ve been on the other side of the fence and coming to Newport is always very difficult.

“We are making it a bit of a fortress again, with two wins already, and good results make it harder for teams to come play us.

“It’s exciting times. Hopefully we will have a packed house and everyone, whether that is playing or supporting, has a big role to play.

“We’ve got to drive standards up all week, get better as a team,” he added.

“It’s almost like we are on trial every week, there is no complacency in the team and everyone wants to start the derby.”

Dragons return to action at Rodney Parade against Cardiff Blues this Saturday (kick-off 5.15pm). Advance ticket prices are available until midnight on Friday.
