Kirchner returns as Dragons prepare for Romania

Head Coach Bernard Jackman has revealed full back Zane Kirchner will be involved in the European Challenge Cup opener with RCM Timisoara Saracens on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 12.30pm BST).

Kirchner has been away on loan with Bristol Bears, but the Springbok is set to feature as a trio of front liners are held back for recovery.

“Zane is also back and he has a lot to offer,” said Jackman. “He has been involved with Bristol and with Hallam (Amos) and Ashton (Hewitt) out he gives us options. It’s good to have him back.

“We’re going to give a couple of guys a recovery and regeneration week. Aaron Wainwright, Richard Hibbard and Rhodri Williams will not be involved.

“Hibbs passed the fitness test for the game, but that’s because it was a Welsh derby. There is no point risking him this week and we need to look after him for the season.

“Aaron has played a lot of games and with our back row options we can freshen him up. Rhodri Williams has played a lot as well. But we will go strong.”

Hooker Rhys Lawrence and scrum half Rhodri Davies are also set to travel to Romania – with Tavis Knoyle due to start the European fixture.

However, wing Jared Rosser will not travel after suffering a concussion and lock Brandon Nansen will be assessed after illness.
