Dragons to tackle Hong Kong in friendly

Dragons will face international opposition this autumn with a friendly fixture confirmed against Asian champions Hong Kong on Monday, October 29 (kick-off 7.30pm) at Ebbw Vale RFC.

Bernard Jackman’s men will hit the regional road to face Hong Kong – also known as the Dragons - at Eugene Cross Park.

And we’re delighted to announce 2018/19 Season Members will gain FREE entry to this fixture to watch Dragons tackle the current Asia Rugby Championship holders.

A second international fixture at a regional club ground this autumn will also be announced later this week.

Head Coach Bernard Jackman said: “We want to tap in to the heritage and history there has been here, with international sides coming to Gwent, and these two fixtures are a chance to bring two games into our region at regional club grounds.

“The Hong Kong game is another opportunity to develop some of our young players that have played in the Celtic Cup, which ends in a couple of weeks. The fixture will give another chance to look at our young talent from the region and give them exposure to a different stimulus.

“We hope to have quite a few players involved with Wales in November so we’ll need to know who is fit and ready to replace those who are away. These two fixtures will give us clarity on who is ready to step up whilst bringing exciting games in to the region.”

Hong Kong’s national teams have enjoyed a transformation in recent years under the guidance of General Manager of Rugby Performance David 'Dai' Rees – the former Dragons assistant head coach and Newport RFC player - and Leigh Jones, the former Dragons coach.

Hong Kong are currently bidding to feature in the next Rugby World Cup and face a four-team tournament in France in November that will determine the 20thand final qualifier for Japan 2019.

Tickets to Dragons versus Hong Kong will be available on the night at Eugene Cross Park.

Season Members gain FREE entry to the fixture by showing their card.

Adult tickets on the night will be £5. Children under 16-years-old also gain FREE entry.
