Jackman looks ahead to Cheetahs match

Following a seven day break the Dragons have returned to training this week, as they prepare for their final home game at Rodney Parade this season against Toyota Cheetahs next Friday (ko 19:35).

This will be the South Africans first visit to Rodney Parade and they will be looking for their first win on British soil in the Guinness Pro14.

Prior to their rest week, the Men of Gwent travelled to South Africa to take on the Southern Kings but suffered a disappointing loss at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium which saw the hosts seal their first win of the season.

As the squad returned to their training base in Ystrad Mynach, Dragons Head Coach Bernard Jackman commented; “It’s been a good week so far in terms of training, the boys are really keen to address the poor performance (against Southern Kings) and have trained with really good intensity.

“We are expecting a couple of boys to be back fit for the match as on the morning of our last game we lost Sarel Pretorius due to sickness whilst Ollie Griffiths pulled out in the warm-up, so we are pretty hopeful that they will both be fit. We should also have our Wales Internationals back and having them involved will add a lot to that team.”

Looking back at the previous match, Jackman continued; “With the season broken up and some gaps between the games, we can have a really heavy focus on contact this week and we need that.  Our contact skills were poor during our last two games against Edinburgh and the Southern Kings so we definitely need to address that.

“There are a lot of things that we need to fix and sometimes match week you may not have enough time as you’re worried about training load so not playing this weekend gives us an opportunity to look at our errors.”
