Kirchner to utilise coaching experiences on pitch

South African international Zane Kirchner will look to use his coaching experiences and use them on the pith, as he returns to the field following his recovery from a shoulder injury.

The 33-year-old helped out with the coaching the Dragons Premiership Select side during their British and Irish Cup Campaign, after suffering his injury during September. But he is looking to use the coaching experiences on the pitch, starting with this weekend’s Anglo-Welsh Cup clash against Saracens at Allianz Park.

“It wasn’t ideal coming into this season and taking off close to four months, but I learnt a bit off the field so I am trying to incorporate that into the game now,” said Kirchner.

He continued; “For me, coaching was good as it kept my mind off not being able to play but being off is probably one of the most frustrating times as a player and for any other sportsperson.”

Looking forward to the upcoming matches, the versatile back continued; “I am still trying to get used to coming back into playing, and now it’s just getting my confidence back and trust in my shoulder.

“I think that for myself I need to just get playing again, and as I expect to be a bit off pace in terms of the thinking process and seeing things, it’s about gradually progressing and building upon each minute.

“You want to add value, off-field I have done that, and as a rugby player your work will be judged upon as you get judged in-between the four lines, so coming into a new squad and new environment you want to add value, so hopefully I can do that going forward.”
