FAIRBROTHER HANDED THREE-WEEK BAN

Dragons prop Lloyd Fairbrother has been ruled out of the Guinness PRO14 derby with Ospreys after being banned for three weeks.

Fairbrother faced a Disciplinary Hearing today (Thursday) via a video conference after a Disciplinary Committee met in Edinburgh to consider the red-card decision in the derby Cardiff Blues.

The front row accepted that he had committed an act of foul play and his actions warranted a red card.

The Disciplinary Committee, comprising of Sherriff Kathrine Mackie (Chair), Jennifer Rae and Robert Milligan QC (All Scotland), found that there was an act of foul play with contact to the head, which carries a mid-range entry point of six weeks.

A ban of six weeks was reduced by 50 per cent due to mitigating factors including the player’s good record, acceptance of the red card and behaviour throughout the hearing.

The Committee therefore banned the player for a period of three weeks meaning that he is free to play from midnight on Sunday, January 13, 2019.

Interim Head Coach Ceri Jones said: “We have accepted the sanction with Lloyd and we move on.It is an unfortunate incident. Everyone in the game is concerned with player welfare so we understand the sanction.

“We are fortunate that it is an area of strength for us and it now gives a good opportunity to Aaron Jarvis against his old team.”
