Jones names his side to face Edinburgh Rugby

Newport Gwent Dragons head coach Kingsley Jones, has named his side that will face Edinburgh Rugby on Friday night at Myreside, KO 19:35.

With a potential for the Men of Gwent to leap-frog the Scottish side into ninth place, Kingsley Jones’ men recognise that this is a big match for them and that they must take the win. "We want to finish above Edinburgh," said Jones. "It's been a tough season and it hasn't been a great season, we know that, but there is still an opportunity to finish ninth.

"Edinburgh are in the same boat as us and we have to go there and believe we can win. We have to bring that application, intensity and belief (from Judgement Day).”

Jones has made one change in the back three as Pat Howard is named on the wing, with Adam Hughes covering the right wing position and Carl Meyer given the nod as fullback. There is also one change in the centre partnership as Jack Dixon is selected to join Sam Beard, with Angus O’Brien and Charlie Davies remaining as the half-backs.

The front row is all change with props Thomas Davies and Brok Harris selected, alongside hooker Thomas Rhys Thomas. The second row sees Matthew Screech and Welsh international Cory Hill named, with the back row seeing two positional changes made as skipper Lewis Evans moves to blind-flanker alongside open-side flanker Nic Cudd with Ollie Griffiths covering the number 8 position.

The bench is made up of Rhys Buckley, Phil Price, Craig Mitchell, Rynard Landman, Harrison Keddie, Geraint Rhys Jones and Tom Prydie as well as promising Dragons Academy prospect Owain Leonard, who is set for his Dragons debut off the bench as cover at scrumhalf.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s clash, returning centre Jack Dixon said: It's the last two weeks and we feel that we can really target these games. We are confident going into them.

"We are not satisfied with how things have gone but if we can get a fifth and sixth win then it's an improvement on last year. We are going to go all guns blazing for these games and have nothing to lose. If we can finish in ninth then, while it's not where we want to be, it's better than last season."
