5,500 Supporters enjoy Rodney Parade Fanzone

Rodney Parade hosted a Fanzone for the Euro 2016 Semi-Final between Wales and Portugal last night, with 5,500 supporters in attendance.

The Rodney Parade Fanzone was the only Fanzone to be setup in Newport for the tournament. The joint project with Newport Live and Newport City Council boasted giant screens, provided by iStadia Solutions, on the grassed area outside Rodney Hall. Newport Gwent Dragons Official Radio Partner Nation Radio provided an MC and music to build up to the match as well at half time and full time.

Despite Wales’ 2-0 defeat to Portugal, which saw them eliminated from the competition at the Semi-Finals stage, supporters were in good spirits singing and cheering Wales on throughout the match. For a gallery of photographs from the night please visit Newport Gwent Dragons Facebook Page.

The Fanzone had initially been setup for Wales’ victory over Belgium in the Quarter-Finals last Friday night. Following the success of this event the Fanzone was opened again with an increased capacity for last night’s match.

The Football Association of Wales and Newport Live Sports Development were in attendance at the Fanzone to provide free sports activities for all ages ahead of kick off. This included small football, volleyball and the ‘Road to Rio’ van, which holds over 15 types of Olympic and Paralympic sports equipment including boxing, golf and tennis.
