Thomas to lead the Dragons out against Edinburgh

Newport Gwent Dragons director of rugby Lyn Jones has made seven personnel changes and one positional change to the team that took on Scarlets during Judgement Day III at the Millennium Stadium.

The Men of Gwent will look to turn the tables on Edinburgh after the Scottish side took away the win at Murrayfield during the semi-finals of the European Challenge Cup.

Versatile back Tom Prydie moves across to fullback as young guns Ashton Hewitt and Hallam Amos take on the roles of wingers. The centre pairing remains unchanged as Tyler Morgan and Jack Dixon retain their places in the starting XV. The half-backs are all change as Jason Tovey replaces Dorian Jones who moves to the bench, and Luc Jones will make his first Guinness PRO12 start as scrum-half.

The front row has one change made to it as hooker T. Rhys Thomas returns to the fold alongside props Phil Price and Brok Harris. There is one change to the second row as 23-year-old Cory Hill joins up with the experienced Rynard Landman. The back row has two changes made to it as flankers Nick Crosswell and Nic Cudd return to play alongside Dragons number 8 Taulupe Faletau.

The replacements bench is all change apart from Ollie Griffiths as he is joined by Hugh Gustafson, Lloyd Fairbrother, Dan Way, James Thomas, Richie Rees, Dorian Jones and Geraint Rhys Jones.

Looking back on last weekend clash against Scarlets, youngster Ashton Hewitt commented: “We created chances but didn't execute with fumbles, inaccurate passes and kicks.

"We do cause damage and split teams but when it comes down to it we need to score the points."

With this season close to wrapping up Hewitt is looking forward to pre-season and training this summer at Ystrad Mynach. He said: "I am looking forward to pre-season and getting stuck into next year's games, hopefully making even more appearances.

"This season has been massive for me in the transition from the academy to the senior environment.

"It's a big change and I have improved quite a lot in most aspects of my game and feel I've come on quite a bit.”
