Four players from the Gwent are looking to finish the season on a high as the Welsh sevens team take on the Edinburgh Sevens this weekend.

Jevon Groves (Cross Keys), Tom Isaacs (Newport), Tal Selley (Dragons) and Jimmy Norris (Bedwas / Dragons) are all in Paul John’s squad for the tournament who were beaten by Kenya in the Bowl final of the London Sevens last Sunday, but John believes his squad have every chance of a better finish in Scotland, now that the squad has been together for 10 days.

He said, "We showed ourselves to be rusty as a Sevens outfit last weekend, but that is understandable as most of the group hadn't played sevens rugby for around 12 weeks. We had chances against Australia and Kenya in the final but it wasn't meant to be.

"There were good points about the tournament too, in particular promising performances from some of our new players.

"Hopefully, we shook off any cobwebs in London and there is a strong desire within the while squad to end the season on a high and although there are never easy Pools at IRB tournaments - we have Argentina, Samoa and Georgia at Murrayfield - if we play to our potential, we have the ability to get through to the Cup quarters and go from there."
