DRAGONS COACHES TO ATTEND YOUTH RUGBY FESTIVAL

Gwent’s next generation of young rugby stars will be showcasing their talents in front of the Dragons’ coaching team at a special rugby festival at New Panteg on Wednesday 23 July.

Gwent’s next generation of young rugby stars will be showcasing their talents in front of the Dragons’ coaching team at a special rugby festival at New Panteg on Wednesday 23 July.

Dragons Head Coach Paul Turner will be joined by Forwards Coach Leigh Jones, Academy Manager Will Thomas and Chief Executive Gethin Jenkins at the inaugural competition.

The festival, organised by the Dragons academy will feature the region’s five Under 15 Dewar Shield teams, as well as a Welsh Exiles side, and the coaches will be on hand to look out for potential star quality.

In a new initiative announced last month, the Dragons academy staff and community department will be offering support to the region’s Dewar Shield teams in this season’s competition. Support of the Gwent sides and players at this level will ensure that the region’s young talent is identified and developed in this important age group.

“We are looking forward to working with our Dewar Shield teams,” said Dragons Academy Manager Will Thomas. “Our coaches are attending Wednesday’s festival as they are keen to utilise their knowledge and skills at this age group. We feel it is an ideal opportunity for both the Academy and the senior coaching team to start the identification of talent in our region as early as possible.”
