DRAGONS UNDER 18 SIDE DEFEAT FILTON

The Dragons U18 side wrapped up their pre season with a very hard fought win against Filton College the first win against them in three seasons.

The Dragons U18 side wrapped up their pre season with a very hard fought win against Filton College the first win against them in three seasons.

Again the game was played over three 25-minute periods so continued identification was ongoing before their first championship outing next week against the Ospreys at Crosskeys RFC (7.15pm).

The young Dragons started very brightly with a try in a move started and finished with the highly impresive Leighton Bellamore in the centre after 8 mins of play which the dragons dominated. The dragons were totally dominant throughout the first period but just could not add to the scoreline after several spurned chances. 0 - 5 to Dragons. Filton College grew in confidence in the second period and shared possesion with the Dragons and also points, with a penalty apiece in this period, the dragons points scorer being Josh Prosser. 3-8 to the Dragons.

Into the third period, once again the young Dragons did not take full advantage of playing down the slope and continued to surrender the ball and possesion to the ever improving Filton side, conceeding far too many penalties - 2 of which were converted. But whilst the Dragons weren't as impressive as in their last outing, through some excellent defending, they still kept Filton at bay.Josh Prosser kicked a further 2 penalties for the young dragons and gave them a desesrved win 14 - 9.

There was a downside to the victory for the Dragons, losing thier excellent openside flanker Kyle Tayler with a dislocated AC joint with 5 minutes to go.This is a big blow for the young Dragons going into the championship, and we all at the dragons wish Kyle a speedy recovery and have him back as soon as possible.
