Junior World Championship Trophy Unveiled First at Rodney Parade

The IRB Junior World Championship Trophy was unveiled to the public first at Rodney Parade, during final U20 Six Nations match between Wales and France.

The trophy has been designed and crafted especially for this tournament, which is the first of its kind, bringing the top 16 Under 20 international sides in the world together in one coherent competition.

The Junior World Championship will take place across Wales in June, with matches at Cardiff, Newport, Swansea and Wrexham.

IRB Chairman Bernard Lapasset said: "When considering the trophy for the IRB Junior World Championship we wanted something that carried forward the unique stature of previous IRB Age Grade tournament trophies and that reflected the Championship's global stature.

"The finished article is striking in that it totally encapsulates the true spirit of Rugby, depicting teamwork in the form of a lineout and framed within a globe. It is a striking and totally unique trophy and one which will become the symbol of this exciting new international Age Grade tournament."

Trophy craftsman Nick Winton said: "The IRB Junior World Championship trophy is a unique item designed by Colin Hellier and manufactured and engraved by renowned individual craftsmen from all over the home counties and in London.

"The production process comprised several stages: design, modelling, casting, spinning, smithing, wood turning, polishing and engraving. Each is a highly specialist craft carried out by several different craftsmen which makes the production of the IRB Junior World Championship trophy a team effort."
