U16 Match Preview

The success of the WRU Reebok Regional Championship is there for all to see.

Kath McCarthy | 01/11/2006

The success of the WRU Reebok Regional Championship is there for all to see. And although the opening six weeks of the new season have not been that successful for the Dragons, high performance manager Ron Shottle is far from despondent with the progress within the region.

The U16's travel to Narberth this evening to face a Scarlets' side, who have a 50 per cent winning record from their opening two games this season.

It's a tough ask for the region, but Shottle said, "Of course we want to win every game, but to be honest we are seeking development rather than trophies and we are relatively pleased with what is going on.

"At times it has been difficult because we have not always had our best players available, but that is something you expect when you have top individuals who are playing senior rugby.

"Having said that, we are delighted with the support we have had from the clubs within the region and would like to think that things will continue to develop over the coming months.

"Going down to the Scarlets is never easy, but I am sure that the players will travel west with a certain degree of confidence. They will certainly have a great deal of determination."

In the other game, to be played this afternoon at 2.30pm, the Ospreys play host to the Blues South at Landarcy Academy.
