Rodney Parade played host to an U8's tag and U10's touch rugby festival as a curtain raiser to The Dragons Family Fun Day. The tournament was supported by mini clubs within the region namely, NHSOB, Cwmbran, Monmouth, Newbridge and Penallta and Ystrad Mynach.
This annual pre-season festival proved a great success with plenty of running rugby and great skills on show to grace the first run out on Rodney Parade this season. The children made the most of this opportunity to shine in front of hundreds of supporters, the festival sponsors Uskmouth Power Ltd and Dragon stars Steve Jones and Gareth Cooper.
All spectators were treated to not only superb rugby but to a friendly atmosphere with top class sportsmanship displayed by all teams.
In terms of the results, both festivals went down to the wire with Penallta and Ystrad Mynach winning the U8's tag tournament while Monmouth took the honours in the U10's tournament.
All participants were rewarded for their efforts with a medal and certificate while each club also received a festival certificate and the icing on the cake was a complimentary match day ticket to watch The Dragons at any Magners League home game of the season.
Steve Foster of Uskmouth Power presented the final trophies to the most valuable player in each age group. The two recipients worked really hard, led by example and graced Rodney Parade with great ability and skill. Winner of the U8's was Harry Whelan from NHSOB and the U10's winner was Max Senior from Monmouth Young rugby.
When the children thought the fun was all over little did they know that it had only just began. Off they proudly marched to the It's a Knockout competition and surrounding fun activities to round off a magnificent day.
