Edinburgh v Dragons Match Report

Despite a lead in the first quarter of the match, the Dragons went down to a 35-18 defeat against Edinburgh at Myreside.

The Dragons began well at Myreside in their first away contest of the season in Round 2 of the Guinness PRO14. A break from Ashton Hewitt saw the Welsh Region awarded an attacking scrum inside the Edinburgh 22. However, despite another scrum awarded in this area the Dragons failed to take advantage of the close proximity to the line, seeing them forced into touch.

Following more exciting attacking play from the visitors they were awarded a penalty, with fly-half Gavin Henson opting for the sticks; with the kick successful the Dragons led 3-0 after 10 minutes.

With debutant Owain Leonard replacing Charlie Davies on the pitch, Henson added to the Dragons lead with a drop goal. But two penalty kicks in quick succession from Duncan Weir saw the home side even the scores 6-6.

On the 30minute marker, Edinburgh fullback Blair Kinghorn took the home side into the lead for the first time with his converted try following a break from centre Chris Dean, with Henson kicking another penalty before the end of the first half.

Half Time: Edinburgh 13 – Dragons 9

A break by Kinghorn saw scrum-half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne go over with the conversion coming from Weir, who returned in time to kick from his yellow card, seeing the home advantage stretch to 20-9.

Following another neat penalty from Henson, a try by Harrison Keddie was controversially chalked off, deeming that Edinburgh were still in the lead 20-12. However, with Henson on top form for the visitors, he slotted a further two penalties to see the score narrow to 20-18 with just the final quarter to play.

Despite a fierce contest, it was the home side that prevailed with a penalty kick from Weir, a third try from Solomoni Rasolea and replacement centre Robbie Freuan sealing it with the bonus point try.
