Rowlands strikes in Pumas draw

10/07/2021

Dragons lock Will Rowlands scored a second half try as Wales and 14-man Argentina shared the spoils in an enthralling test match at the Principality Stadium.

Pumas full-back Juan Cruz Mallia was shown a red card after 29 minutes for a reckless tackle on Kieran Hardy.

The Pumas were trailing 6-3 at the time, but rallied through tries from Pablo Matera and Jeronimo De La Fuente and the boot of Nicolas Sanchez.

Tries from Rowlands and Tomos Williams helped Wales level the scores before replacement fly-half Jarrod Evans missed a last-gasp penalty.

Dragons had nine players involved in the match as Elliot Dee, Leon Brown, Ben Carter, Will Rowlands, Aaron Wainwright, Ross Moriarty, Taine Basham and Jonah Holmes featured for Wales while Gonzalo Bertranou was a second half replacement for the Pumas.

The two sides will meet in the second Test in Cardiff next Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
