Though we may be put through the wringer at times, being a Dragons supporter is never boring!
The 2013/2014 season did not pan out in the way we would have hoped on the pitch, off the pitch however great strides were made in stabilising the business, attaining sustainability and securing a solid position from which to grow.
This growth started in earnest with the recruitment of a number of quality players the likes of Thomas Rhys Thomas, Richie Rees, Kris Burton, Martin Muller, Netani Talei and Francisco Chapparo, adding real value to a squad already brimming with promise.
There is already a rich vein of talent running through the squad as the number of international call-ups this summer can testify. While Toby Faletau makes waves with the Lions down under, Andrew Coombs and Tom Prydie are proudly representing the Region in the famous red shirt of Wales as they tour Japan.
It’s with Wales Under 20s that the Men of Gwent are having an increasingly big impact; young guns Ieuan Jones, Hallam Amos, Jack Dixon and Elliot Dee all doing their country and Region proud. In Wales’ opening match of the Junior World Championships each of the players scored a try making a vital contribution to the 42-3 victory over Samoa. A great start for Wales with the Dragons contingent laying down sizable markers. This impressive form continued through the group stages ensuring that Wales qualified for the semi-finals.
Combined with the key appointment of Lyn Jones as Director of Rugby there is no doubt that we are heading in the right direction. Lyn returns to the Dragons with a clear vision to realise the region’s undoubted potential and no one can deny that he has the knowledge, experience and skills to make this happen.
