Match Report

It was a young Newport Gwent Dragons squad took on Championship side Ealing Trailfinders in a wet and raining clash this afternoon.

It was the hard hitting squad of Ealing that overcame the Dragons during the final 30 minutes to take a win of 41-21 in the rain, at the Dragons training ground in Ystrad Mynach.

The match began well for the Men of Gwent as hooker Rhys Buckley crossed the whitewash from a driving maul; Angus O’Brien added the extras and the Dragons were up 7-0 with just three minutes on the clock. It wasn’t too long after when similarly, William Ryan went over the try line from close range, with fullback Luke Daniels evening the scores up.

Once again the Dragons next try came from close range thanks to a push from Matthew Screech for Ed Jackson, O’Brien kicked the conversion and the Dragons took the lead for a second time. Ealing Trailfinders responded jut before half-time with a converted try of their own which ended the half on a score of 14-14.

The Dragons gave away a penalty early on in the second half, so the opposition took the lead through fly-half Jonny Bentley. However, after a powerful 5m scrum from the Dragons with scrum-half crossing for the Dragons third converted try of the afternoon.

It was ex-Dragon who earned Ealing’s lead back, however his try wasn’t converted.  But the opposition weren’t finished there as three more tries were to come from Matt Cornish, Luke Carter and Will Davies. With the final score ending on 41-21 to Ealing Trailfinders.
